Our dryer balls are used in the tumble dryer, where they mechanically separate fabrics, reduce wrinkles and help shorten drying time.

How they work

The balls are handmade from wool. In the tumble dryer, they move around with the wet laundry: their mechanical action separates garments, reduces wrinkles and promotes more even drying. Since they are made of wool, a natural fibre that absorbs water, they shorten drying time by absorbing some of the moisture from the load. According to supplier data, wool can absorb up to 30% of its own weight in water.

What they do

What they DON'T do

The balls do not work like a traditional cationic fabric softener, which deposits surfactants on fabrics to make them feel soft and smell fresh. Their action is mechanical, not chemical: they do not fragrance the laundry (unless you add a few drops of fragrance or essential oil) and they do not soften it by depositing substances.

Where to use them

Only in the tumble dryer, not the washing machine. Simply place them in the tumble dryer with the wet laundry before starting the cycle.

If you want to fragrance your laundry

You can add a few drops (3–5) of essential oil or R5 fragrance to each ball just before the cycle. Do not exceed the recommended amount (max. 3–5 drops per ball)

Reuse at the end of their life

When the balls are too worn to use in the tumble dryer, they can be given a second life:

• In a wardrobe or drawers, with a few drops of essential oil, to add fragrance
• As decoration (for example, on the Christmas tree)
• As a play ball for cats or dogs (under supervision; do not let the animal chew or swallow the wool fibres)
