About us

What's the idea behind R5?

R5 is a young company from Bergamo, which believes in small daily gestures. They are the ones that, day after day, lead to big changes.

R5 was born when we realised that a lot could be done about the detergent sector. If we think that 90%-95% of what we buy of a normal detergent is water and that it comes in disposable plastic bottles.
We focused on two things, to reduce waste: a drastic cut in disposable plastic, which is anachronistic as well as harmful, and the elimination of water transport, which only involves effort and an unjustified cost for us and our planet. Our goal? To improve every day, offering you the best products in terms of performance, with the lowest possible impact.

Why R5?

We are in the R Economy. The circular economy aims to keep products, components and materials at their maximum usefulness and value, at all times. The way to do this is to focus on the principles of the model, commonly known as the "5 R's" of the circular economy: Rethink / Reduce / Reuse / Recover / Recycle. Our logo always presented with its pentateuch, as its "concentrated manifesto", is a kind of inspirational call to action and an operational manual encapsulated in the logo itself.

What's our commitment?

We are committed to continuously improving our positive impact and minimizing and mitigating our negative impacts. For this reason, we decided from the outset to measure our work and embarked on a process of assessing and reporting our impact.
We believe that achieving the goals of the 2030 Agenda should move every company. We with R5 are focusing on SDG 12: Ensure sustainable production and consumption patterns and SDG 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development, in particular for 14. 1: By 2025, prevent and significantly reduce marine pollution of all types, particularly from land-based activities, including marine debris and nutrient pollution (goal which is measured through the Coastal Eutrophication Index and density of floating plastic debris).
We are working to be able to address SDG 6 as well. We are focused on coming up with new, increasingly green formulations, which we expect to update you on shortly, so that we can try to work towards 6.3 (By 2030, improve water quality by reducing pollution, eliminating discharge and minimizing the release of chemicals and hazardous materials, halving the proportion of untreated wastewater, and substantially increasing recycling and safe reuse globally) and 6.4 (By 2030, substantially increase water use efficiency in all sectors and ensure sustainable freshwater withdrawals and supplies to address water scarcity and substantially reduce the number of people suffering from water scarcity).

What are the refills covered with?

The refills are coated with a water-soluble film (PVOH or PVA) that is 100% biodegradable and dissolves completely without generating any micro or nano plastics. The water-soluble film is produced from polyvinyl alcohol, also called PVA or PVOH or PVAL which is biodegradable and non-toxic and is a water-soluble synthetic polymer. It is widely used for single-dose packaging/capsules especially for laundry detergents and washing machines, but it has endless properties and we are convinced that pushing ourselves to find new uses can be a step forward in low impact packaging. This is why we have chosen to work with this technology, even though it requires a lot of work in terms of product preparation and formulation, when used in different areas. Water-soluble films dissolve completely once in contact with water without leaving harmful residues, are 100% biodegradable and totally safe for the environment, thus reducing the footprint of the product itself. A wide variety of natural microorganisms have been shown to degrade PVA without leaving harmful residues. More and more countries are adopting Extended ProducerResponsibility (EPR) policies, an environmental protection strategy to achieve an environmental goal by making the product manufacturer responsible for the entire life cycle of the product, especially for take-back, recycling and final disposal. Using a PVA-based packaging innovation is one way to address EPR programs. Now it's up to us to push further and further into creating products without traditional packaging.

Are the products tested on animals?

No. Our products are not tested on animals at any stage of the supply chain. For more information please write to info@R5living.com

Are our products Vegan Friendly?

Absolutely, our ingredients are not of animal origin. For more information you can write to us at info@R5living.com

Where can I find the list of ingredients?

The full list of ingredients (INCI) for each product is available on the product page of our website www.R5living.com. Look under the product description and you will find the "Composition and Warnings" tab.
On the back of each Refill package you will find the ingredients and warnings according to the law. Always keep the packaging.

Are there hazard pictograms on the package labels?

Yes, on the packages of our Refills there are some danger pictograms according to the law indications. These pictograms are also due to the fact that our products are extremely concentrated and water-free, unlike common detergents. The ready-to-use product, diluted according to the instructions, would not need the indication of any pictogram.

How long does a product last?

A 15 ml refill produces 750 ml of detergent. So it lasts as long as a normal 750 ml bottle of cleaner and depends on how often you use the product. With the R5 refill, 1000 ml of cleaner is produced.

How long does the product last once diluted?

It is recommended that the product be used within nine months of dilution (PAP, Nine-Month Period-After-Preparation) for maximum effectiveness.

How long can I store Refills?

The refills can be stored for more than a year if kept in a cool, dry place away from heat and direct light.

How come the Refills are different lengths?

It may happen to find Refills slightly longer or shorter. It's normal, don't worry, the machine works "by weight" of the product and the length may fluctuate, but the Refills always contain 15ml of product.

How are Refill R5s better for the planet?

On average in Italy every family uses 30 cleaning spray bottles per year. With R5 you avoid buying and throwing away all these bottles and you always reuse the same ones, avoiding to generate plastic that certainly as soon as the product is finished ends up, in the best case, in the recycling bin. But only 9% of the plastic in our recycling bins is actually recycled. R5 was created with the idea of decreasing the consumption of single-use plastic: by extending the useful life of the bottle, fewer bottles will be produced and plastic waste will be avoided at source (see FAQ section on Plastics).

Are R5 products safe for the home with children and pets?

Yes, once the refill is diluted according to the instructions, the products are safe to use in homes with children and pets. Always store R5 products out of reach of children and pets.

Can I use any spray bottle?

We strongly recommend using our refill bottle, cleaned and rinsed before refilling. Our products have been formulated and tested for this bottle.
You can always use another spray bottle, this one must always be well cleaned and remember to label the bottle indicating the product you have introduced. We do not recommend using aluminium bottles for household cleaning products.

Do the R5 products clean as well as the regular cleaning products I buy?

Our products have been tested in independent laboratories against leading brands for cleaning effectiveness and have also been tested by a substantial number of people who are helping us to fine tune all our products. We are very proud to say that R5 products have performed very well, giving excellent results in terms of effectiveness and performance.

Does the use of 2 Refills improve performance?

No. Our Refills have been created in the optimal dosage to be diluted in 750ml of water for R5 Degreaser, R5 Glass and Multipurpose and R5 Bathroom, in 1000ml of water for R5 Floors, to give a superior cleaning by removing the dirt that we usually face in the cleaning of our homes. A higher concentration of active components in the detergent would not result in greater cleanliness but on the contrary would lead to a waste of resources that would be dispersed into the environment.

In line with our philosophy, we have defined the dosage of R5 products according to their correct use and attention to not wasting resources.

There is only one exception and that is for the degreaser. In case of use on particularly "greasy" "exceptional" dirt - e.g. motorbike/bicycle chains, deep cleaning of barbecue grills, etc. - it is possible to use an "R5" degreaser. - it is possible to prepare an "R5 Super Degreaser" using two refills of R5 Degreaser in a 750 ml bottle.

How do I fill the refill bottle?

First, add a refill of the product you've chosen to its corresponding bottle. Then add lukewarm water and fill to almost the brim. You can do this by pouring water directly from the tap into the bottle. Fill gently to avoid foaming. Turn the spray back on. Wait a few seconds, then shake the bottle to mix the product.

You can also fill the bottle first and then add the refill. Just make sure you don't fill the bottle to the brim to leave room for the refill.

Should I use filtered or purified water?

It is not necessary to use filtered water. Tap water is just fine. However, if you have a filter you can use filtered water.

Should I use hot water to fill the bottle?

It is not necessary to use hot water. We recommend using lukewarm water for faster dissolving of the refills. Cold water is also fine. After introducing the refill and the water wait a few minutes, shake and start using.

Does the bottle have to be completely empty before refilling it?

It is best to use all the illiquid inside the bottle before mixing another refill of detergent. We recommend cleaning and rinsing the bottle before refilling.

How many times can I refill the refill bottle?

If used correctly and with care, our refill bottle can last forever. If you have any problems please don't hesitate to write to us at customercare@R5living.com. We are always open to feedback and want to make our products and your experience the best it can be.

What are the scents of the products?

R5 Degreaser: a sparkling accord of lavender and balsamic notes that leaves a fresh sensation of efficiency and cleanliness

R5 Bathroom: the liveliness of citrus fruits and the sweetness of white musk meet, leaving a very pleasant scent in the environment.

R5 Glass and Multipurpose: a fresh accord like a morning breeze, made delicate by floral notes and white musk

R5 Floors: a mix of aromatic and balsamic fruits and flowers to leave a pleasant scent on surfaces all day long

R5 Surface and Wood Floors: a citrus accord sweetened by a bouquet of flowers and vanilla for a pleasantly scented environment.

What happens if R5 products arrive damaged?

If you have any problems with your order, please email customercare@R5living.com and our customer team will be able to help.

You may be asked to take photographs if the delivery is damaged.

In the event that the refills are wet or broken, don't worry, send us a photograph to customercare@R5living.com along with your order details and we will send you new refills immediately. The PVA film they are coated in is an amazing material, but it is delicate when exposed to heat, direct light or excessive pressure, so it is possible that some refills may change during transit.

Where are R5 products manufactured?

Our detergents are currently produced entirely in Italy. And this also applies to the PET bottle, the accessories and the packaging including stickers and labels.

Are R5 products safe to use on all surfaces, e.g. ceramic, steel, wood?

Our products are suitable for most surfaces and you can find information on how to use them correctly in the product sheets of each R5 product. We always recommend to test a small area of the surface you want to clean first. If you have any questions, please write to info@r5living.com.

The www.R5living.com platform is a B2C platform, i.e. designed for Consumer/Private customers. If you are a company and you want to buy and use R5 products, place your orders through the platform www.R5living.com. Then send us an email to customercare@R5living.com with all the necessary information for the issuance of the electronic invoice (company data, VAT number, PEC, unique billing code) and we will send it to you.

Can I request an invoice?

You can always request an invoice. Write to us at customercare@R5living.com and we'll be happy to help.

How can I buy on R5?

Shopping on R5 is easy.

You can decide to make single purchases or to subscribe.

If you choose single purchases you can decide to buy the Basic, Medium or Large version of the product.

By subscribing to a subscription, you will comfortably and automatically receive at your home the R5 products selected with the frequency that best suits your needs (every 4, 6, 8 weeks). What's more, you will receive a super discounted price, saving you money compared to the cost of individual purchases.

Is the refill bottle in the kits empty?

Yes. The bottles travel empty, we don't want to ship unnecessary water so our bottles arrive home empty, but always with a box of Refill.

How much does an R5 subscription cost?

It doesn't cost anything, on the contrary! With the R5 subscription, you save on The FOUR5 Home Starter Kit (€36 instead of €40) and on all its Refills (€11 instead of €13, 15%)! And with the Welcome Offer we give you the first Refill and shipping is free for the first 6 shipments.

How does the R5 Subscription work? What is the Subscriber Program?

It's easy! In case of purchase of The FOUR5 Home Starter Kit you can activate the "Subscription" option. The subscription guarantees an immediate saving of 10% on the purchase of the kit and 15% on all subsequent Refills compared to the price of single purchases of the same products. You can choose how often you want the refills to be delivered. You can select delivery every 4, 6, 8 weeks. In addition, with the Welcome Offer we will give you the first Refill for free and shipping costs for the first 6 shipments are free. If you buy The FOUR5 Home Starting Kit in your first purchase you will receive:

Can I cancel or suspend the Subscriber Program?

Absolutely!!!
At any time you can cancel your subscription or pause it or request to skip a shipment. Simply log into your R5living.com account, choose "Subscriptions" on the left side of the screen, choose the product you wish to update or cancel, and click the Update or Cancel buttons. If you wish to update your subscription, you can choose from the following options:

Skip a delivery
Update payment information
Change your shipping address

How do I access my subscription settings?

You will be able to access your account by clicking on "Account" from the menu on your mobile phone or at the top right of the screen if you are using a computer. Once logged in, select "My subscriptions". If you have multiple subscriptions, choose the one you want to manage and select the "Manage subscriptions" menu.

Can I change the delivery date of my subscription?

Yes, you can do it online by connecting to your reserved area of the R5living.com platform. In the "Subscriptions" section you can suspend your subscriptions or you can skip the next delivery. If you have any problems, please contact us by email at customercare@R5living.com.

I won't be needing R5 products for a while. How can I pause my subscription?

You can pause your R5 subscription whenever you want. Log in to your account and click on "Subscriptions". Select the subscription you wish to change, select the frequency and choose "Pause". You will not be charged subscription refills while your subscription is suspended. You can also choose to skip your next refill order by selecting "Skip a delivery" under "Subscription Settings".

What products are available for the R5 subscription?

Currently only The FOUR5 Home Starting Kit is available by subscription, but we are adding new products to make the R5 Subscription service more and more convenient and shipping less and less CO2-impactful.

What should I do if I need more R5 products before my next subscription refill order?

If you need some products before your next subscription refill order, please email us at customercare@R5living.com. We will try to optimize your order. This will not affect the mailing date of your next refill order.

Can I buy a Kit without a subscription?

Yes, we offer all our products for single purchase. You can always decide to buy more refills to take advantage of quantity discounts and reduce CO2 emissions for transport.

You can also buy refills only if you want.

How do I update my billing address, shipping address, or credit card information for my subscription?

Within your Account at www.R5living.com select the "Account Summary" section. To edit this information, click on "Manage Addresses". After entering the new information or editing the existing information, click on "Save Address".

How do I know that my order has been placed and received?

Once your order has been successfully processed, you will receive a confirmation email with your details, order details and shipping address. Please check that these details are correct. If you have any questions please write to customercare@R5living.com

How can I track my order?

Go to your Account page at www.R5living.com. Here you will find a summary of your orders with the order number and delivery status. By clicking on the order number you will be able to view details of the products that are included in that order. When your order has been shipped, you will receive an email with tracking information, so you can follow the delivery of your order through the BRT carrier portal.

How do I get free shipping?

We offer free shipping on any order over €25 or for subscribers to The FOUR5 Home Starting Kit for the first 6 items.

Digital products, such as gift cards, are not counted in your order total to qualify for free shipping.

How much is the shipping cost?

In Italy, shipping is free for orders of 25€ or more or for TheFOUR5 Home Starter Kit subscribers (for the first 6 shipments). For any order below 25€, shipping costs are:

2,90€ for orders between 10€ and below 25€
4,90€ for orders below 10€

Outside Italy the shipping cost is 16,90€.

What are the shipping times?

We ship throughout Italy in 3-5 working days from receipt of order.
Outside Italy delivery times are 5/7 working days.

Which countries do you ship to?

We ship in Italy and Europe (except Cyprus, Malta and Ireland, but we are working to include these countries too)

Can I also pick up my order at your office?

We would love to, but we don't have enough product stock in our offices. We are working on making our products available in a selection of stores as well. We will keep you updated through our newsletters as soon as we have enabled this possibility. In principle, this is a great idea to save on product shipping.

My delivery didn't arrive/my subscription didn't arrive?

All orders are shipped within 1-2 business days of receipt. In Italy, orders generally take 3-5 working days from order completion to arrive. In inconvenient locations delivery may take longer. Outside Italy, ordinary delivery times are 5/7 working days.

If your order has not yet arrived and the usual delivery days above have already passed, please email customercare@R5living.com. Be sure to provide us with your order number so we can check your order details in our system and our Customer Care team will try to resolve the situation as soon as possible.

Do you have a return policy?

At R5 more than anything else, our customers' satisfaction matters. We would love to make you feel 100% satisfied with your purchase, always. If for any reason you are not satisfied with the products, please email us at customercare@R5living.com with your order date and number and we will do whatever it takes to find the best solution to your needs.

We accept returns within 30 days from the date of delivery. Moreover, returns are completely free of charge.

Once we receive your return request email we will send you all the instructions to make the return. To be eligible for a return, your item must be returned undamaged and in the same condition in which you received it. Once your return has been received and inspected we will send you an email within 3 working days to notify you of the approval (or rejection) of your return. If it is approved, the refund will be processed and the actual crediting will be made with the same means of payment used for the initial purchase, according to the timescales directly dependent on the different payment circuits.

How can I return my order?

We're sorry you didn't like the R5 products. To return your order, please email us at customercare@r5living.com with your order date and number and we will do whatever it takes to make it right. We accept returns within 30 days of the delivery date. We will send you an email with the return label and instructions for sending the products to our warehouse.

How do I get the return label?

Email us at customercare@r5living.com to receive your return label. We ask that you provide us with your order number and also the reason for the return, to help us improve our service and products.

Please make sure to include the "Order Return Label" containing the Return Number. Together with the return label we will send you instructions for sending the products back to our warehouse.

When will the refund be visible?

You will receive an email confirming the start of the refund procedure, within 3 working days of receipt and acceptance of the return. The actual re-credit will be made with the same means of payment used for the initial purchase according to the timing directly dependent on the different payment circuits.

How are the products packaged?

We have chosen to always be consistent with our consumption model. Every order is packed in cardboard that is at least 70% recycled, 100% recyclable The virgin component of the cardboard is always from FSC forests. For more information you can write to info@R5living.com.

Why do we use such "simple" packaging?

Our containment packaging may look "poor", but we want to be consistent with our philosophy and use only FSC cardboard ® that is at least 70% recycled and 100% recyclable. Adhesive labels are produced according to a green protocol: chemical-free pre-printing process, water-based varnishes, 100% reduction of water consumption in printing, 100% use of renewable sources, FSC certified recycled paper and use of new paper not derived from wood, waste reduction and Co2 offsetting.

What is the Permanent Bottle made of?

The pemanent bottle is made of PET because PET is the best material to contain household detergents. It allows to maintain unchanged the characteristics of the product, it is light and resistant. This bottle has an infinite duration and is 100% recyclable in plastic when it will be at the end of its life. If due to unforeseen circumstances something should happen to your Permanet Bottle we will be happy to help, please email us at customercare@R5living.com.
The trigger is specially designed to stand the test of time and is given under warranty for one year.

What are triggers/sprays made of?

The spray is made of plastic (polypropylene or PP, HDPE and LDPE). We have not yet found a spray made from recycled material, but we are working on providing a trigger made from only one type of plastic.

How are your labels?

Our labels are produced in Italy by a company that has adopted a green protocol: chemical-free pre-press process, water-based varnishes, 100% reduction of water consumption in printing, 100% use of renewable sources, FSC certified recycled paper and use of new paper that does not derive from wood, waste reduction and Co2 offsetting.

How big is the problem with Plastics?

In 2018, Europe generated 51.2million tonnes of plastic waste. They are broken down as follows: 39.9% is used for packaging, 19.8% for buildings and construction, 9.9%for the automotive sector and 6.2% for electronics. However, less than 30% of plastics produced are collected and recycled, while landfilling and incineration of plastic waste are still widespread practices, with 31% and 39% respectively. In order to ensure that the recyclable plastics that currently end up in landfills and incinerators are recycled instead, it is essential to improve separate collection systems and certification schemes for collection and sorting companies.

In addition, between 5 and 13Â million tonnes of plastic are dumped in the sea every year, of which between 150 and 500Â 000 tonnes are directly attributable to Europe. All of this puts the prevention and reduction of plastic among the most important sustainable development goals for 2030 to prevent and significantly reduce marine pollution.

What are the benefits of a circular economy for Plastics?

There are many benefits to be gained from a circular plastics economy, but we need a truly effective strategy at European level. We need an innovative and sustainable plastics industry, where design and production respect the need for reuse, repair and recycling. This would lead to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and independence from fossil fuels, which is essential as the production of plastics and their incineration result in the production of around 400 million tonnes of CO2 per year.

One of the main problems from an economic and environmental point of view of the 20th century are in fact the technological and scientific developments that have allowed a greater extraction of natural resources, their processing and their use, but without offering a parallel and significant system on how these resources could return "to the cradle", either by biological degradation or through the recovery of secondary raw materials. Most of the resources extracted from nature, in fact, are used in unsustainable activities and end their useful life as waste.

Is it possible to reduce plastic by working on packaging?

In its 2020 Action Plan, the European Union reiterates that the use of packaging is an issue that needs to be addressed clearly and promptly. In2017 packaging waste reached a new peak: 173 kg per European inhabitant. To ensure that all packaging in the European market is reusable or recyclable in an economically sustainable manner by 2030, the Commission will revise Directive 94/62/EC to strengthen the mandatory essential requirements for packaging placed on the European market.

It also intends to consider other measures, focusing on:

- reducing unnecessary packaging and packaging waste;

- improving design for reuse and recycling of packaging;

- considering the reduction of complex materials in packaging

What does the R5 system do to reduce the Plastics problem?

The R5 System was created to reduce and prevent the production of more plastic and aims to align with the action plan outlined by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation:

- eliminate unnecessary plastic,

- innovate, to ensure the reuse, recyclability or composting of the plastic we need,

- make the use of all plastic items circular so as not to pollute the environment

Does Plastics have advantages?

It certainly is. There are many benefits to plastic:

- Reducing food waste. In fact, according to the consortium's research, 50% of food produced in less developed countries spoils between collection and consumption due to the non-use of plastic packaging.

- Preserving health. The risk of fatal accidents by using a helmet is 40% lower. In fact, the helmet is a plastic instrument, as are transfusion bags, airbags, catheters and vascular prostheses.

- Reduce fuel consumption. The use of plastics in a car makes the vehicle lighter, thus saving an average of 750 litres of fuel over the entire life cycle of the product.

In addition, scientific research and technological advances have made plastics an increasingly important ally thanks to their ever-increasing recyclability and the reduction in their specific weight (which has in fact fallen by 86% in the last 20 years).
