Valle Virtuosa: un esempio di impegno concreto

Virtuous Valley: an example of concrete commitment

Today I want to tell you about avery special Association. That it is special you can tell right away, from their very presentation: "Nous n'héritons pas de la terre de nos ancêtres, nous l'empruntons à nos enfants" (We don't inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children).

Valle Virtuosa is an association founded 10 years ago in Valle d'Aosta to oppose the construction of a pyrogasification plant and to promote good management practices as an alternative to the hot treatment of waste in their region. After the referendum victory in 2012, the association has worked to adoptthe Zero Waste strategy. The volunteers of the association promote activities and initiatives of all kinds, in schools and on the territory, aimed at improving the separate collection of waste and promote the reduction of the production of packaging and plastic waste.

Their action is not only important, but it is changing the way of acting and thinking in the whole region.

Wemet by chance, on the occasion of the Sant'Orso Fair, a historical and millenary fair in the city of Aosta that celebratestraditional Aosta Valley handicrafts. The Fair expresses the identity of the people of Valle d'Aosta, their sense of belonging to a wonderful territory.

The Association contacted us because they found our project in line with their values and the pursuit of their goals: to reach Zero Waste. It has been an honor for us to meet them and deeply understand their way of acting and operating. An example of commitment and courage for us, which gives us even more energy.

We share the same philosophy: reduce waste, reduce to zero the consumption of unnecessary resources, avoid the production of products created specifically to be thrown away after a single use, recycle wherever possible to put back into circulation secondary raw materials that take on a new life.

Recycling waste means turning waste into a resource, a product that can be reused and reintroduced into the economic system by creating items from secondary raw materials. This activity is essential to help our planet, as it reduces the consumption of raw materials (oil), the use of energy and the emission of CO2.

Reducing waste, sorting it and then recycling it in the best possible way is not so simple. It takes the commitment of all. We citizens first; we companies that must set a good example, making available more and more sustainable alternatives to our consumers; the institutions, which must commit themselves every day to change the system. And above all we need associations like Valle Virtuosa, that never give up (as we say here in Bergamo), that despite the difficulties and misunderstandings go straight on their way to protect our Planet and all of us.

So THANK YOU Valle Virtuosa for making us part of this beautiful initiative, for believing in us. We hope next year to be at your side at the next Sant'Orso fair.

Here below the photographic story of our friends of Valle Virtuosa and here is the link to their website to discover all the initiatives that they carry out daily.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
