April 22, 2022. Earth Day. Investing in our Planet.

Earth Day -Earth Day- is the day dedicated to the preservation of our Planet. It is celebrated every year, the day after the spring equinox, April 22.

The United Nations supports this day, which involves 193 countries around the world. It is by far the largest environmental event on the Planet, an important moment of confrontation between different nations to promote the preservation of the Earth.

"Now is the time to change everything - the economic climate, the political climate and the way we act on climate. Now is the time for unstoppable courage to preserve and protect our health, our families and our livelihoods.
By Earth Day 2022, we must act (boldly), innovate (broadly), and implement (equitably). It will take all of us. All of us together. Businesses, governments, and citizens - all empowered and all accountable. A partnership for the planet." (Source: https://www.earthday.org/).

The goal we all need to set together is to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 to keep global temperature growth below 1.5°C.

The theme for Earth Day 2022 is Investing in our Planet. What is meant by this?

What can businesses do?

Let's start with what businesses can do.

If businesses don't act now, climate change will increasingly deeply damage economies, increase resource scarcity, diminish profits and job prospects, and impact us all.
Yet we already know that private sector innovation (with public support) accelerates the kind of rapid change we need, like nothing else. And it pays off. Studies show a direct correlation between sustainable business practices, stock prices, and corporate performance. Companies that develop strong ESG (Environment Social Governance) standards have better profitability, stronger finances, happier employees and more resilient stock performance.

Smart companies are discovering that it's no longer a choice between going green and increasing long-term profits - sustainability is the path to prosperity. Companies of all sizes need to take action toward a green economy. We as individual consumers need to reward companies that have already begun a green transition, preferring their products to those of competitors who continue with short-term profit motive to the detriment of all.

What can governments do?

Governments of all nations hold the keys to transforming and building the green economy: they must incentivize citizens, businesses and institutions to build a resilient future. We all need to push for a shift to policies and partnerships that build a renewable economy. When we choose who governs us, we choose who will ensure that we and our children have a sustainable future.

What can WE do?

As individuals, we have the simple, yet effective power to make our voices heard through our choices, our civic actions, and our personal interactions. What each of us does, and how we do it, has a huge ripple effect on our ecosystems, and on the pace of corporate and governmental actions. We have the power and the duty to lobby and support companies that take active steps to protect our environment through their climate-friendly practices and investments, and to fight those that don't.

Every little action counts, every daily gesture helps to trigger change, to start this great revolution.
